The 7 Best Hotels
in Jaipur
Jaipur was planned from scratch in 1727 as the capital of a Rajput kingdom and painted pink in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales. Both decisions stuck. The walled Pink City still works as a grid of coral-coloured bazaars around the City Palace, Hawa Mahal rises out of nowhere at the end of a shopping street, and Amber Fort looms on a hill twenty minutes out of town. It's also one of the few cities in India where the hotel stock is the trip.
Because the Jaipur royals built so many palaces, the city has an unusual concentration of actual working palace hotels โ Rambagh Palace, Jai Mahal, and a handful of havelis converted to boutiques. Staying in one of these is part of why people come, and we've weighted the list accordingly. For those on smaller budgets, the old city has a few genuinely good heritage guesthouses; the best hostels are close to the railway station.
Rambagh Palace
The former residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur, now a Taj flagship, and the single most iconic hotel in Rajasthan. Marble corridors, Mughal gardens with roaming peacocks, and a scale that reminds you this was built as a royal house. Even the standard rooms feel like junior suites. The arrival ceremony โ rose petals, caparisoned elephant, maybe a camel โ is exactly as theatrical as you'd hope.
- 47-acre Mughal gardens with wild peacocks and heritage cars
- Suvarna Mahal restaurant, serving recipes from Rajasthan's royal kitchens
- Polo Bar with walls of trophies from the Maharaja's playing days
- Twenty-minute drive to Hawa Mahal and the walled Pink City
Jai Mahal Palace
The second Taj palace property in Jaipur โ 18-acre gardens, an 18th-century building, and a price point that's meaningfully lower than Rambagh's. Less grand, more relaxed; better suited to guests who find Rambagh's theatre overwhelming. The grounds are extraordinary and the service (Ramanand at the front desk is named repeatedly) runs to Taj standards.
- 18-acre Mughal gardens with peacocks, ponds and an evening folk-music stage
- Spa with Ayurvedic and international treatment menus
- Large heated outdoor pool surrounded by gardens
- Ten minutes from both the Pink City and Rambagh Palace
Samode Haveli
A 200-year-old haveli that still belongs to the Samode royal family, converted into a 39-room hotel with hand-painted walls, original courtyards and a rooftop bar with old-city views. Smaller and more intimate than the Taj palaces, and the only place where you actually feel like you're staying in a private home rather than a hotel. Stairs are frequent โ worth noting.
- Hand-painted walls and ceilings preserved from the original 19th-century haveli
- Rooftop bar with views over the walled city at sunset
- Courtyard pool surrounded by hand-painted arches
- Five-minute drive to the Pink City and Hawa Mahal
Bloom Boutique | Chelon Haveli
The rare boutique hotel inside the walled Pink City โ three minutes from Hawa Mahal, five from City Palace, in an actual 290-year-old haveli. Heritage bones, modern interiors, good breakfast, and a front desk (Naranji is mentioned repeatedly) that actually makes your visit easier. Some rooms face inner courtyards โ ask for a window-facing one.
- Inside the walled Pink City, three minutes to Hawa Mahal
- Preserved haveli facade with modern interiors and marble bathrooms
- Rooftop with views over the Pink City rooftops at sunrise
- Restaurant serving proper Rajasthani thalis alongside European options
Pandya Niwas
A family-run heritage boutique opposite the Lal Hathi Mandir in the old city โ suites are spacious and face Nahargarh Fort, staff are hands-on, and you're ten minutes' walk from both Hawa Mahal and City Palace. The location is dense and lively (you'll hear the morning bazaar) rather than polished โ which is the point.
- Suite rooms with direct views of Nahargarh Fort lit up at night
- On the bazaar route to Hawa Mahal (three-minute walk)
- Rooftop restaurant with a complete view of the Pink City
- Chef will prepare pet-friendly meals on request
The Hosteller Jaipur, MI Road
The best-run hostel in Jaipur, inside walking distance of the walled city and with a rooftop cafรฉ (Silly Canteen) that solo travellers hang around in from morning coffee through dinner. Community manager Neha is named repeatedly as a reason guests extend their stay. Solo women travellers specifically report feeling safe.
- Rooftop Silly Canteen cafรฉ open throughout the day
- Community manager organises daily events and day-trip groups
- Female dorms with password-locked access and private lockers
- Ten-minute walk to the walled city, five to a metro stop
Rudra The Stay
A six-room guesthouse run by a family with unusual attention to detail โ spotless rooms, hands-on service, and a location five minutes from Hawa Mahal and City Palace. Limited facilities (no pool, no restaurant), but for the price and the location, this is among the best budget calls in the walled city.
- Four-minute walk to Hawa Mahal and six to City Palace
- Hot water, AC, and spotless rooms held to higher standard than price suggests
- Owner-run; direct contact for anything needed during the stay
- Food delivery (Zomato/Swiggy) allowed through the front desk
How we chose these hotels
All picks run above 4.3โ on Google, with most well above. Given how many Jaipur hotels trade on branding rather than delivery, we prioritised properties where recent reviews confirm consistency of service, cleanliness, and food quality. The palace hotels are non-negotiable five-star standards; the guesthouses below are all confirmed by multiple recent positive reviews.
We excluded several well-known heritage names whose recent reviews describe dated rooms, unreliable hot water, or erratic front-desk service. We also skipped properties outside walking distance of either the old city or the main shopping/railway corridor โ Jaipur traffic makes anywhere further away frustrating.
When to visit Jaipur
November to February is the correct answer: cool, dry, clear skies (12-25ยฐC). December nights are cold โ bring layers. March is still tolerable. April to June is genuinely punishing (40ยฐC+) and most rooftop restaurants close their outdoor service. July to September is monsoon โ sporadic heavy rain, but the Aravalli hills green up dramatically.
